751 Design Store: A Futuristic Pop-Up Shop

Located in the 751D Park, the 751 Design Store offers a range of designer products for visitors to enjoy and purchase. What sets this pop-up shop apart is its integration with the existing old factory buildings, creating a harmonious blend of the past and the future. The designers, Zhou You and Cao Liang, sought to avoid excessive demolition and construction, opting instead to work with the original environment.

The main material used in the store's construction is wood, which adds warmth and organic beauty to the space. The wooden display cabinets and space ash spray paint create a contemporary yet inviting atmosphere. The exhibition desks, designed in circular shapes, resemble floating water, giving the store a sense of fluidity and movement.

One of the design's unique features is the cascading layout of the exhibition stands. Each desk is linked by a curved surface, creating a seamless flow throughout the space. This arrangement not only adds visual interest but also allows for different functional requirements, as the height of each exhibition desk can be adjusted accordingly.

The 751 Design Store project began in September 2015 and was completed in October 2015, coinciding with the Beijing International Design Week. The temporary nature of the store adds to its allure, creating a sense of exclusivity and urgency for visitors to experience the fusion of design, innovation, and urban renewal.

By embracing the concept of a pop-up shop, Zhou You and Cao Liang have not only created a platform for designers to showcase their products but also provided a new channel for the public to participate in urban renewal. The 751 Design Store serves as a testament to the power of design in transforming spaces and engaging communities.

This innovative design has garnered recognition and acclaim, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. The award acknowledges the project's outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
